Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Bison Jump

Located in southwest Alberta Canada the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo jump is a terrific World Heritage Convention site with museums and walking trails around one of Canada’s most infamous buffalo jumps. A buffalo jump, or sometimes bison jump, is a cliff formation which Indigenous peoples of North America historically used to hunt and kill plains bison in mass quantities. Legend has it a young First Nations boy wanted a front row seat to see the bison run off the cliff. He hid below the cliff and was… smashed. Hence the name.
